The debate about the nature and societal role of racism has finally become impossible to ignore. The question now is not so much who is a racist and who isn’t, as if racism was a hateful character trait, but how racism is embedded in our everyday cultural and political practices and how this plays out in one’s own perception and behavior. Critically dealing with racism includes questioning Whiteness, which is often met with a surprising degree of resistance.

We will read classical and contemporary texts about the study of and struggle against racism from the context of Critical Race Theory, postcolonial studies, sociology etc.

The seminar will be held in English.

A reading list will be announced in the first session.
