mit Prof. Britta Wirthmüller

mittwochs, 11:30-13:00 Uhr (Beginn 3.4.24)

Willy-Brandt-Str. 10, Raum 201

Do we have a body or are we our bodies? Do we act from the body, with the body, or as a body? Is our body a fixed entity or can we become a different body over time? For example, what does it mean to become a dancer, a musician an actor or an athlete? How do training and practicing shape the body, not only on a physical, but also on a performative level?

Which philosophical concepts of the body have been developed throughout the time? Which ideas, images and conceptions were they based on and how do they keep influencing how we think of our own body?

The seminar will pursue these and related questions from a combination of different theoretical and practical approaches. We will be doing physical exercises as well as close readings of relevant texts from philosophy and other disciplines. Participants are also invited to contribute their specific ways of thinking their bodies/from their bodies.

The seminar will be held in German or English, depending on the abilities of the participants. A reading list will be announced in the first session. Please bring clothes that you can move in comfortably.
